embrace

“Accept each day exactly as it comes to you. By that, I mean not only the circumstances of your day but also the condition of your body. Your assignment is to trust Me absolutely, resting in My sovereignty and faithfulness. On some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance: The demands on you seem far greater than your strength. Days like that present a choice between two alternatives — giving up or relying on Me.” —Jesus Calling, Sarah Young

This morning was rough, and yet full of God’s embrace. I met with my oncologist and even before he said anything I could tell that the results of my PET scan weren’t good by the look on his face. The PET scan showed that this is a lymphoma reoccurrence and so I will transfer my treatment back to the United States. I’m not exactly sure what the next steps will be, but will keep you posted as I find out more next week.

Somehow God prepared my heart for the news. And then He provided who I needed, while so far from my family, to be with me, to cry with me, to laugh with me, to help me with practical details, to pray with me. It’s almost dinnertime here in Vienna and am blessed and amazed with the details that have already been taken care of, especially in a foreign country: my mail forwarded, a plane ticket to the U.S., informing people, organizing paperwork, etc.

I head back to the States on Monday. Yes, there are still so many questions, and right now not many answers. But I’m thankful my GOD already knows the questions and the answers that go with them. I don’t know what He is up to and why and why now and why at all. But He knows. Thank you for your prayers, love, hugs here and from afar, encouraging words and scriptures God has placed on your heart to share. Continue to join me in prayer and that somehow God would be glorified through what right now seems like a yucky mess.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. For I hold you by your right hand — I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you” (Isaiah 41:10,13).
